Primary Principals’ (PPCBU) Collective Agreement 2022-2024

The Primary Principals’ (PPCBU) Collective Agreement (PPCA-PPCBU), covering primary school principals who are members of the new Primary Principals’ Collective Bargaining Union (PPCBU), was ratified in April 2023 for a term of 24 months from 1 December 2022 to 1 December 2024.

Which principals’ collective applies to your principal?

As a result of the last round of bargaining, there are now two Collective Agreements (CA) that can cover principals.

Which of these two applies to your principal is based on their union membership when the PPCA-PPCBU CA was ratified.

What is the principal professional coaching (and wellbeing) support fund?

$6,000 to support principal coaching and wellbeing is available in both 2023 and 2024. It is a tagged component of the school’s operating grant.

No later than the last day of term 4 each year, boards must also have received a declaration from the principal about their use of the $6,000 coaching and wellbeing funds.

New appointments

New principals who are members of the PPCBU will need to be offered the new PPCA letter of offer for employment, which is available in our article Recruiting principals – permanent letters of offer.

Do not use old letters saved to your computer, as they will be outdated.

Subsequent resignation from the PPCBU

A principal who was a member of the PPCBU when the PPCA-PPCBU was signed or joined following the settlement of the PPCA-PPCBU, who subsequently resigns, is not immediately eligible for the IEA based on the NZEI PPCA.

A specific IEA, based on the PPCBU-PPCA needs to be obtained.
