Primary Principals’ (NZEI) Collective Agreement 2023-2025
The Primary Principals’ (NZEI Te Riu Roa) Collective Agreement (NZEI-PPCA) covering primary school principals who are members of NZEI Te Riu Roa was ratified in June 2023 for a term of 24 months from 3 July 2023 to 1 July 2025.
In accordance with section 53(2)open_in_new of the Employment Relations Act 2000, collective agreements remain in force while a replacement agreement is bargained for.
Which principals’ collective applies to my principal?
As a result of the last round of bargaining, there are now two Collective Agreementsopen_in_new (CA) that can cover principals:
- The Primary Principals’ (PPCBU) Collective Agreement (PPCBU-PPCA)
- Primary Principals’ (NZEI Te Riu Roa) Collective Agreement (NZEI-PPCA)
Which of these two applies to your principal is based on their union membership when the PPCBU-PPCA Collective Agreement was ratified.
Employees on individual employment agreements (IEAs)
On 15 August 2023, a new IEA was promulgated and released for principals who are not members of NZEI Te Riu Roa (and were not members of the PPCBU at the time the PPCA-PPCBU was ratified, or subsequently joined).
Previous IEAs are now out of date.
Provide the new IEA to these employees so they can sign and obtain the new rates and conditions (which are effective the date they sign the new IEA) as soon as possible.
New appointments
New principals will need to be offered the new PPCA letter of offer for employment, which is available in our article Recruiting principals – permanent letters of offer.
Do not use old letters saved to your computer, as they will be outdated.
