The composition of your board may seem obvious now, but things can get confusing when there’s a casual vacancy or board election.
Maintaining an up-to-date board register makes things clear for everyone.

What is a board member register?
It is a document that records who is on your board, their position, and when their term in office starts and ends.
Think of it like a helpful one-stop reference that confirms your board’s composition at any one time.
Your board may already have one that you can look at, or download our sample board member registeropen_in_new.
Most boards review their member register at the first meeting of each year, after a change in board membership, and after an election.
What is the School Board Updates form?
The School Board Updatesopen_in_new form advises the Ministry of Education and us of any changes to your board.
This form replaces Appendix 1 and Appendix 2, which were previously used for this purpose.
you must complete the School Board Updates form for every new board member that takes office following any:

parent, staff, or student election,
-
parent, staff, or student by-election,
-
selection to a casual vacancy of a parent representative,
-
co-option, and
-
proprietor or other appointments.
You must also complete the School Board Updates form when there is a change in the principal or presiding member (board chair).
The form should be completed within one week of election results or any of the above changes.
Note: The form does not have to be completed for re-elected board members unless there is a change in presiding member.
