Payment of new pay equity rates
On Tuesday, 18 October 2022, employees covered by the Kaiārahi i te reo Pay Equity Claim received their first payment at the new pay equity rates.
This included payment from 20 August 2021 to 30 September 2022.
For example, kaiārahi i te reo who was earning $23.03 per hour, is now earning $41.31 per hour under the new rates.
The new pay rates were determined by an automatic point-to-point pay rate translation of an employee's point on the old pay scale to the equivalent point on the new pay equity pay scale as agreed in the settlement.
Funding
All pay settled pay equity claims have within the Terms of Settlement agreements, a commitment to ongoing funding. Because these claims have been settled without going to a court for a legal determination, the parties must commit to ensuring that the pay equity rates of pay do not fall behind again.
Schools will continue to receive funding and are expected to use this funding for remuneration of the affected employees.

Former employees
Former employees covered by the settlement have been able to lodge an application for their pay equity payment by completing the form through the link below.
Details on completing the form, and common questions about the payment to former employees, are also available through the link.
Schools and Kura are not be required to pay former employees covered by the claim, who finished employment on or before 31 August 2022.
The Ministry will pay them directly once they have completed the form for former employees to request a pay equity paymentopen_in_new.
People who finished employment on or after 1 September 2022 will be paid as part of the 18 October payment.
