Cultural Leadership Allowance (Teachers)

The Cultural Leadership Allowance is a new provision that was negotiated as part of the settlements for the:

The allowance recognises the mahi provided in schools and kura by kaiako who possess extensive cultural knowledge and capabilities, serving as cultural leaders within their schools and community.

Cultural Leadership Allowance – Primary and Area Schools

A limited number of Cultural Leadership Allowances have been introduced as part of the recent settlements for primary and area school teachers. 

The Ministry of Education, NZEI Te Riu Roa, and PPTA Te Wehengarua have agreed on the eligibility requirements, matrix for assessment, and allocation process to distribute these allowances.

Eligible primary schools and all area schools have been contacted directly about the process to allocate the allowance.

The allowance is $5000 per annum, allocated to eligible kaiako. The role and allowance can be equally shared between two holders if mutually agreed.
