All school boards (through the principal and staff) must report to parents and whānau on student progress and achievement under Regulation 21 of the Education (School Boards) Regulations 2020.open_in_new
Reporting to parents and whānau is essential for developing a clear and shared understanding of children’s progress, achievement, and success.
From 2026, all state and state-integrated schools will be reporting against the revised Years 0–10: English and Mathematics & Statistics learning areas.
There are also new reporting expectations that will improve consistency in how student progress and achievement are communicated.
SMART is a bilingual digital tool designed for twice‑yearly assessment and aromatawai in Years 3–10.
It supports teachers and kaiako to monitor learner progress in reading, writing, maths, pānui, tuhituhi, and pāngarau.
